Where is the Champions League final?
The 2022 UEFA Champions League Final will take place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France. The stadium is a few minutes north of downtown Paris.
The original selection for this year’s host site was the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. However, in 2020 UEFA announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all venues for the finals would be pushed back by a year, meaning Istanbul was moved from 2022 to 2023, and that Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia has been chosen to host the 2022 final.
Then, in February 2022, UEFA announced that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Saint Petersburg would no longer host the Champions League final. Instead, the final was moved to Saint-Denis.
This year’s match will be the first Champions League final staged in France since 2006, when Barcelona beat Arsenal 2-1 in a comeback fashion.
The Stade de France hosted the 2000 Champions League final, which saw Real Madrid beat fellow Spaniards Valencia 3-0 behind goals from Fernando Morientes, Steve McManaman and Raul.
The stadium also hosted the 1998 FIFA World Cup final which saw the French national team beat Brazil 3-0 to win the title. The stadium was named in 1998 when Zinedine Zidane scored the only goal in France’s 1-0 win over Spain.

What happens if the Champions League final ends in a draw?
If the Champions League final ends with the score level after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, the game will go into extra time. The teams will play two halves of 15 minutes of overtime.
After the extra 30 minutes, if the score is still tied, the teams would proceed to penalties.
Each team would take a minimum of five penalties each, and if the shootout score is tied, they would move on to the sudden death penalty until a winner is determined.
The last Champions League final to reach a penalty shootout came in 2016 at the San Siro when Real Madrid beat bitter rivals Atletico Madrid 5-3 after a 1-1 draw. Juanfran missed his side’s fourth kick and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped in to hand the winner to Real.
