Best Christmas Ads of 2022

Marks and Spencer Christmas 2022 announcement

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, better known as French and Saunders, have reunited for this year’s M&S ad – what more could you ask for?

You might recall that French starred in last year’s festive campaign as the gossipy, helpful fairy, alongside Spider-Man star Tom Holland, who voiced the beloved character of the mark, Percy the pig.

For 2022, the festive fairy is looking for a friend and meets Ducky (Saunders) who is a dog toy in need of some Christmas cheer.

The ad is sweet, light-hearted and humorous, but we expected more when you have a comedy legends reunion.

Aldi Christmas 2022 announcement

After posting his teaser on social media the previous week, viewers were kept on a cliffhanger after watching Kevin miss his flight to Paris.

Inspired by the classic holiday movie, Home Alone, Katie the carrot sits comfortably on the plane before realizing Kevin isn’t there.

Separated from his family, the scene cuts to Kevin, who is home alone. He is watching the big game on television, when he hears the heavy footsteps of an unknown intruder on the roof.

“Trembling to his roots”, he devises a plan to warn the uninvited guest. What follows is a series of amusing, incident-packed exchanges between Kevin and the intruder – culminating in a finale where the identity of the intruder is finally revealed.

Aldi takes the crown – Kevin the carrot has become a festive favorite we can’t wait to see on our screens this time of year and the final chapter is just a delight.

Lidl Christmas advertisement 2022

Lidl’s Christmas advert features a star – the Lidl bear – and his story of prank-to-riches.

The adorable bear comes to life when a dad accidentally shrinks his Lidl jumper in the wash and his young daughter gets the idea to put it over her teddy bear.

From there, Lidl Bear becomes the star of the supermarket’s advertising campaign and finds himself caught up in a crazy new life in the spotlight.

Lidl Bear faces much of the same pressures of social media and work stress (although he does have a private jet, so that’s not too bad).

Until he realizes what’s really important – spending Christmas with his family…awww.

John Lewis 2022 Christmas Announcement

John Lewis used his 90-second ad, titled The Beginner, to make a very powerful point this Christmas.

Set to a cover of Blink 182’s All the Small Things by American artist Mike Gieier, the ad aims to raise awareness among children in care with the story of a middle-aged man learning to skateboard.

Viewers wonder about the motive for her persistence until the final scene, which shows a social worker arriving at her doorstep with young teenage girl Ellie, who has arrived at her new foster home with her skateboard.

John Lewis said “in a difficult year we felt it was important to demonstrate that it’s what we do that matters most”, adding he was proud to use his Christmas publicity to “generate conversation and action around an often overlooked issue”.

John Lewis has struck the perfect balance because he shines a light on an issue that we often don’t give a platform to.

Yet the announcement still leaves us feeling uplifted and even inspired to do more, which is a very powerful thing.

Morrisons 2022 Christmas Announcement

Morrisons festive character is back – Farmer Christmas – as he thanks Britain’s farmers for the work they do to make Christmas so special.

Morrisons’ colleagues are also featured in the advert as ‘real elves’ who help make more than half of the fresh food sold by the supermarket.

The advert ends with Farmer Christmas proudly explaining that Morrisons is the “only supermarket to be officially endorsed by me” because of its commitment to UK agriculture, food manufacturers and high value Christmas products.

Morrisons brings a unique take on the festive advertising scene with its focus on British farmers, but as a recurring festive character Farmer Christmas lacks the sparkle of Kevin the Carrot or Lidl Bear.

We hope for something new next year.

Sainsbury’s 2022 Christmas announcement

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond stars as ‘The Countess’ in this year’s Sainsbury’s Christmas advert.

The Supermarket immerses viewers in a medieval fairy tale as a young cook attempts to impress the formidable Countess with a new twist on a classic Christmas pudding.

The festive scene opens with a wide view of a castle surrounded by forest and mountains.

As a dragon flies across the screen, there’s a voiceover from the one and only Stephen Fry.

The Sainsbury’s ad has the woman of the moment Alison Hammond, a Stephen Fry voiceover and dragons – it’s the perfect recipe!

Tesco Christmas Announcement 2022

Tesco formed the Christmas party and produced their own campaign ad, promising the only thing they will cut are prices and cake.

This year’s announcement focuses on how it prepares the nation for Christmas, with exciting offers and value-for-money gifts.

The supermarket makes a conscious and sensitive nod to the cost of living crisis and reminds us that there are plenty of important moments to look forward to this festive season despite this.

Argos Christmas advertisement

Argos’ announcement centers on a young couple expecting a quiet little dinner but are surprised when friends and family descend in droves.

Celebrating the return of a “normal” Christmas, the retailer aims to show that this year’s celebrations are for everyone, from revelers to football fans.

As they hear the rumble of their guests arriving, the couple stares at their nibbles and the husband pulls out the Argos app and hilariously says, “We’re going to need a bigger bowl.”

The ad is simple, comical, and captures the holiday season we’ve been yearning for and what this year will look like for many of us.

Asda 2022 Christmas Announcement

Buddy the Elf has become Asda’s latest seasonal rental in the supermarket’s 2022 Christmas campaign.

Santa’s greatest helper, beloved in the classic 2003 film, spreads Christmas cheer (singing loudly for all to hear) in a heartwarming 90-second commercial.

Under license from Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the ad pays tribute with iconic imagery and quotes from the festive film.

Fans of the Christmas classic will appreciate the nostalgic nod even if it feels a little awkward in places.
